Volunteer Opportunities at the London Down Syndrome Association (LDSA)

Have you been looking for a way to use that untapped energy or newly acquired skill? Are you looking to get more involved in your community? Would you like to make an impact in the lives of those living with Down syndrome? Volunteering for the LDSA is a great way to achieve all of these things and learn more about Down syndrome. The LDSA is a registered charity 100% run by volunteers and we can always use more ideas and helping hands. The LDSA provides responsive, compassionate support services to children, youth, adults and families living with Down Syndrome in London, Ontario, and surrounding areas. Providing support within the counties of Elgin, Huron, Middlesex, Oxford and Perth. We are looking to better support our community through dedicated volunteer positions as listed below.

Volunteer Summary:

The social media administrator will maintain the LDSA social presence through monitoring and creating relevant posts.

Responsibilities and Duties:

The social media administrator will seek fresh relevant material to post on Facebook and other social media platforms. The social media administrator will report to the board of directors.

Duties include:

  • Approve posts on social media for appropriateness
  • Create new posts as required for upcoming events
  • Moderate Social Media public posts
  • Seek new relevant posts from the community
  • Understand the operation of the LDSA
    • Communicate with the Board of Directors
    • Provide social media status including any potential problems
    • Listen to board objectives and goals
    • Look for opportunities to improve community involvement through the social media
  • Be available for urgent postings due to last minute issues
  • Maintain confidentiality of community members and LDSA operations
  • Ensure social media presence is meeting any legal requirements
Qualifications / Skills:
  • Familiar with Facebook and other social media platforms
  • Willing to attend LDSA events / programs
  • Able to produce quality relevant content for posting
  • Able to operate remotely using mobile devices
  • Own their own equipment for gathering content
Benefits:

This is a volunteer position and as such has no monetary compensation. As a volunteer of the LDSA you will be recognized on the website and the events that you are involved in. A letter recognizing your volunteer contributions can be provided.

Volunteer Summary:

The website administrator will keep the LDSA website current and up to date.

Responsibilities and Duties:

The website administrator will liaise with the members of the board of directors to post new material and help setup event and program registration on the LDSA website.  The administrator will also administer e-mail accounts on the Google platform.  The website administrator will report to the board of directors

Duties include:

  • Updating registration fields and forms for new events
  • Keep the website fresh with updated postings, etc.
  • Manage subscriptions to maintain website operations
  • Help determine the appropriate use of Google Analytics
  • Creating new e-mail addresses and managing / forwarding existing addresses
  • Understand the operation of the LDSA
    • Communicate with the Board of Directors
    • Provide website status including any deficiencies or potential problems
    • Listen to board objectives and goals
    • Look for opportunities to improve community involvement through the website
  • Be available for urgent postings due to last minute issues
  • Maintain confidentiality of community members and LDSA operations
Qualifications / Skills:
  • Familiar with Wordpress in order to understand the customized LDSA website
  • Familiar with Gmail administration
  • Understand Cyber Security and Phishing awareness
  • Knowledgeable of website regulations and legal liabilities
  • Able to explain technical issues to non-technical people
Benefits:

This is a volunteer position and as such has no monetary compensation. As a volunteer of the LDSA you will be recognized on the website and the events that you are involved in. A letter recognizing your volunteer contributions can be provided.

Volunteer Summary:

The merchandise coordinator will organize and maintain the LDSA inventory of various merchandise including: Clothing, books, accessories and promotional items.

Responsibilities and Duties:

The merchandise coordinator will be responsible for keeping the website inventory up to date, ordering new material, shipping / delivery of orders, implementing any marketing campaigns, establishing pricing and reporting to the board of directors.

Duties include:

  • Work with suppliers (orders, samples, etc.)
  • Budgeting
  • Creating advertising photos and descriptions for the website
  • Communicating with customers
Qualifications / Skills:
  • Good Communication skills
  • Well organized
  • Reliable
Benefits:

This is a volunteer position and as such has no monetary compensation. As a volunteer of the LDSA you will be recognized on the website and the events that you are involved in. A letter recognizing your volunteer contributions can be provided.

Volunteer Summary:

The fundraising coordinator will develop and implement fundraising campaigns for the LDSA in conjunction with existing fundraising efforts.

Responsibilities and Duties:

The fundraising coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that all fundraising activities adhere to the objectives of the LDSA through solid communication with the board of directors. Current LDSA run fundraising activities include: Annual Gala, Golf Tournament. There are many independent run fundraising activities

Duties include:

  • Help vet new fundraising initiatives and establish fundraising objectives
  • Coordinate promotional materials for approval
  • Work with fundraising volunteers
  • Budgeting
  • Creating posters and other advertising
Qualifications / Skills:
  • Strong Communication skills
  • Able to work well with others
  • Budgeting / Money sense

Volunteer Summary:

The shared program coordinator will develop and maintain the LDSA program offerings in conjunction with other shared program coordinators.

Responsibilities and Duties:

The shared program coordinator will be responsible for the implementation, and smooth operation of LDSA programs in concert with the Board of Directors and other shared program coordinators. Programs will be divided based on age group or area of focus as determined with the Board of Directors. Current programs include: Speech, Music, Golf, Arts & Crafts, Social Activities

Duties include:

  • Work with program suppliers
  • Budgeting based on different billing methods
  • Creating posters and other advertising
  • Communicating with participants for any program changes
  • Collect data on program success
Qualifications / Skills:
  • Strong Communication skills
  • Able to work well with others
  • Initiative
