The London Down Syndrome Association is pleased to be able to provide annual Therapy Bursaries for children, teens and adults living with Down syndrome.
It is through annual fundraising events such as the LDSA Gala, Tee21 Golf Tournament, and individual, community and corporate donations made to the LDSA that we are able to provide Therapy Bursaries each year.
BURSARY AMOUNT: Each bursary available for disbursement is up to $500.00 per applicant.
The money dispersed by the LDSA for Therapy Bursaries is limited to a set budget. The following criteria will help determine the number and amount of bursaries to be given.
BURSARY CRITERIA
❖ No families will be considered for a Therapy Bursary if the application is received after the June 30th deadline date or not filled in correctly with all the required information.
❖ The candidate must have Down syndrome and live within the present catchment areas that the LDSA serves, including the counties of Elgin, Huron, Middlesex, Oxford & Perth Counties.
❖ Applications for consideration are being accepted June 1st-June 30th via online submission.
❖ Applications should be filled out through our website
❖ Successful Therapy Bursary recipients will be notified by August 1st.
❖ There are no age restrictions to qualify for the Therapy Bursaries.
❖ To ensure all families have an opportunity to apply for Therapy Bursaries, families who receive funding are not eligible to apply for funding again until the following year after funding has been used. Example: Funding received in 2015 would make applicant ineligible to apply again until 2017.
❖ Eligible Therapies include the following: Speech, Occupational, Physical, Behavioural/Psychological.
❖ Non-Eligible Therapies include programs that are already subsidized by the LDSA such as: Camp Talk About It and Music Therapy.
FUNDS MUST BE USED BY
❖ Successful applicants for funding must use their Therapy Bursary Funds within the 11 months following the granting of the funds i.e. by July 31st, each year. Example: Funds issued August 2015 are to be used and invoices submitted by July 31st, 2016 as the LDSA will rescind all funds approved and not used by July 31st, each year.
PAYMENT OF BURSARY FUNDS
The LDSA will pay the Bursary directly to the registered Pathologist/Therapist as requested by the applicant. The applicant will supply full name, address, phone number and email address of the therapy provider on the accompanying Bursary Application Form.
A letter will be issued by the LDSA to the family and their Therapy provider outlining the process of payment by the LDSA. The information provided will include the amount of funding that will be provided, final dates for payment within the year of the Bursary issue date and how the provider is to invoice the LDSA for therapy services they are providing to the family.
All inquiries regarding Bursary payment will be addressed by the Treasurer of the LDSA.
